Marshmallow (Althaea officinalis), a perennial herbaceous plant of the Malvaceae family, is mainly used for medicinal purposes in its roots, stems, leaves, and flowers. It is listed in the European Pharmacopoeia and is mainly produced in Europe and other regions. In China, marshmallow is mostly a cultivated variety that can be used as both medicine and food.
